Dublin Weather: Met Eireann give mixed Christmas forecast for Ireland as shoppers cram in their last minute gifts

It's going to be a chilly but mainly dry Christmas as Met Eireann say showers will be isolated over the next couple of days but should be clear by Wednesday.

Last-minute shoppers have been packing the town over the weekend and thankfully the rain has held off - but there could be the odd light one today and tomorrow.

Overall it's going to be bright and sunny while tonight and tomorrow night will see a sharp dip in temperatures.

Met Eireann said:: "Today, Monday, will be a mostly dry day, with some bright or sunny spells and just the odd light shower. It will be a breezy morning with a fresh and gusty westerly wind, but this will ease and back to the southwest during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 8 or 9 degrees.

"Cloudy tonight, with outbreaks of rain developing. The rain will clear later in the night and it will become colder towards dawn as clear spells develop. Lows of 2 to 4 degrees in light southwest breezes with a touch of frost and some patchy mist and fog.

"Tomorrow, Tuesday, Christmas Eve, will start out with a mix of cloud, bright intervals and isolated showers, but it will soon become mostly dry with increasing sunshine amounts. Highest temperatures of 6 or 7 degrees in light variable breezes."

The forecaster has yet to give a specific Christmas day prediction for Dublin - but they have given a general predication for the whole Island and it's looking pretty good.

"Christmas Day: A cold and frosty start for many on Christmas day with mist and fog patches clearing.

"Crisp sunny spells in eastern and northern areas will soon give way to the cloudier conditions extending from the west and southwest during the morning.

"It will however, stay mostly dry for daylight hours, but patchy rain and drizzle will develop in parts of Connacht and west Munster during the evening-time. Rather cold, with afternoon highs of just 3 to 6 degrees, but a little less cold in coastal districts, especially near the south coast where afternoon temperatures will be around 7 or 8 degrees.

"Light winds becoming southeasterly will gradually freshen, increasing strong and gusty near west and southwest coasts later."
