Dublin Weather: Met Eireann give bleak capital forecast - but bright weekend boost on the way for Ireland and UK

Fog patches and frost are forecast for Dublin today as Met Eireann say the capital could get a lot cooler and wet tonight.

This morning will be much the same as yesterday with scattered showers and plenty of clouds - but the good news is the rain will go away as the day progresses.

Tonight will see a temperature drop though, and "grass frost" will be in some places along with fog.

Met Eireann said: "Cloudy today with showery outbreaks of rain continuing during the morning and early afternoon. Top temperatures 9 to 12 degrees. Becoming drier towards evening, Light breezes.

"Showers will become more isolated during the evening and it will be generally dry and clear overnight.

"Cool with lows of 1 to 3 degrees and grass frost in places. Fog patches will develop in the calm conditions.

Friday will be much the same, but it will show a bit more sun and a slight increase in temperatures.

Drinking water in north Dublin found to have lead levels almost 15 times above the legal limit  

They said: "Fairly sunny on Friday morning but more showers will develop by the afternoon as cloud builds up. "However there will also continue to be long dry periods of weather throughout the day. Highs of 11 to 13 degrees in light breezes."

Ready for the weekend

Sunday will see the heat turn up with highs of 17 degrees in some parts of the county.

The forecaster has yet to give a specific Dublin prediction, but they have said things will generally calm across Ireland.

"Dry through Saturday and Sunday with good sunshine on both of the days. Temps on Saturday will range from 11 to 14 degrees in almost calm conditions.

"During Sunday temps will increase to between 13 and 17 degrees as the breeze turns southeasterly in direction, highest values across Connacht and the Midlands."
