Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecasts brief respite before more rain and wind batters the city

Dublin will experience a brief respite from the terrible weather but it's not all good news.

Things are set to take a turn for the worse as heavy falls of rain and powerful gusts will batter Ireland. While the western counties will be especially affected by the low-pressure system, the east will also see some bad weather although not as much.

However, Dubliners will wake up to a calm morning today with some lovely sunny spells expected throughout the day. Daytime temperatures will be around 18 or 19 degrees and there will be scattered showers with some turning heavy although they won't be as heavy or frequent as previous days.

Tonight will see showers becoming more isolated with clear spells for much of the night. The lowest temperatures will be around 11 to 13 degrees.

Tomorrow will be brighter but it will be a cloudy and windy day with some scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing. The temperatures will reach the highs of 18 to 19 degrees.

There is no further forecast for Dublin but here's what the national outlook says:

Thursday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Wet and rather windy overnight too with some further blustery spells of rain. Mild and humid with lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.

Friday

"Currently the western half of the country is in line for some potentially intense heavy falls of rain, while staying drier further east. Warm and humid with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees, in mostly fresh southeast winds.

Saturday

"Currently blustery spells of thundery rain and fresh southeast winds will persist for much of the day but with sunshine and moderating westerly breezes following later. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees."
