Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecast heavy thundery downpours - but Ireland could see a huge boost this weekend

Dublin's little sunny spell could be over as soon as tomorrow as Met Eireann gave warned heavy thundery downpours could lash the capital.

The city was gleaming yesterday as we got a taste of sunshine with temperatures hitting 20 degrees in some places - but it looks like that's all about to come crashing down again.

Experts say there'll be "a few passing showers" today and temperatures won't go quite as high, but it's Thursday that is the most concerning.

They said: "A dry morning with sunny spells. Sunny spells and a few passing showers for the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees in moderate southwest winds.

"Any evening showers will tend to die out and clear to leave it largely dry overnight with clear spells. Minimum temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in mostly light southwest winds.

"Sunshine and a few passing showers on Thursday with the odd heavy, thundery downpour possible. Maximum temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in brisk westerly winds."

The good news is the sunshine is set for a comeback.

It's too early to say for Dublin specifically, but Met Eireann did say Friday will see some "good sunshine" with the odd shower.

Temperatures could even hit as high as 21 on Saturday.

The Irish forecasters said: "It looks set to be mostly dry on Saturday with spells of hazy sunshine. Warm and humid with highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in moderate southeast winds. Showery rain will develop in the south and west overnight, extending to most areas later on. Humid overnight with lowest temperatures 11 to 14 degrees."
