Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecast hail, thunder, and drastic temperature drop as UK gets sub-zero snow warning

Dublin is expected to take a chilly downturn today as Met Eireann have warned of freezing temperatures, hail, and thunder.

The weather has taken a complete u-turn this week as April couldn't start the same summery way March ended.

Today will also see strong winds as we can expect "squally" showers that may get extreme in patches.

They said: "Cold and blustery today with sunny spells and occasional squally showers, some of hail and thunder. Highest temperatures of just 6 to 8 degrees and feeling colder in strengthening northwesterly winds.

"Clear spells and occasional showers tonight in brisk northwesterly winds. Cold overnight with frost and ice forming in sheltered spots. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees."

The chilly conditions are expected to continue into Wednesday with the risks of rain and hail remaining.

They said: "Frost and ice will clear on Wednesday morning to leave a bright and blustery day with sunshine and scattered showers of rain or hail. A cloudier evening with patchy rain moving in. Top temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees in fresh northerly winds."

Ireland

The forecaster has yet to make a weekend prediction for Dublin - but the early indications are suggesting Ireland will be much warmer and dry.

Despite this they also warned that "there are likely" to be some showers.

UK snow warnings

The first week of British summer time is kicking off with freezing temperatures, another blast of snow and April showers that will be heavy at times.

It's not a cruel joke - temperatures could plunge to as low as -5C with many places feeling much colder than recent days.

Outbreaks of rain will hit much of the island this week and some showers will be heavy and accompanied by strong winds, according to the Met Office.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said some places will see frost at night, while mountainous areas of Scotland may see snow, according to The Mirror.

He said: "It's really a week of April showers, a mix of rain and some snow on the high ground and some hail.

"It's going to be a very different week to the week just gone."
