Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecast hail and sleet with temperatures to plunge overnight

Guess what Dublin? It’s going to be very cold today.

The national Status Yellow warning for snow and ice ends at 9am today, and Met Eireann tell us we’re in for a bright day, with any frost, ice or patches of snow thawing this morning.

But it's not all good.

They continue: "A cold and bright day will follow, with sunny spells, but scattered showers also, some of hail and sleet. Top temperatures only 5 or 6 degrees Celsius. Winds mostly moderate to fresh, westerly.”

Tonight

In a shocking turn of events, tonight is going to be cold too. Very much so, with the weather experts forecasting temperatures as low as -2 with sharp frost and icy patches.

Tomorrow

Thursday looks a little better, with sunny spells expected.

They add: "Cold, with maximum temperatures of 6 to 8 Celsius, moderate westerly breezes at first, will back light to moderate west to southwest later today.”

National outlook:

Words such as “cold”, “wet” and lovely phrases like “unsettled conditions persisting” dominate the national meteorological service's outlook for the coming days, until Saturday , when things turn really nasty.

Met.ie says of the weekend: "Current indications suggest a cold and blustery day with widespread showers and coastal gales. Many of showers comprised of a wintry mix of rain, hail, sleet and possibly snow.”

This latest forecast ends with this little nugget of joyous news for cold-blooded mammals: "Further Outlook: Unsettled. Risk of rain, strong winds and wintry precipitation continuing.”

Happy Wednesday!
