Dublin weather: Experts predict 'wild storm' will hammer Ireland as Met Eireann give update

The first few days of lockdown are going to be hellish as Met Eireann is forecasting heavy rain and very strong winds this week.

Met Eireann predict the grim weather is because of an "area of low pressure", which will sweep across Ireland this weekend.

And other weather experts are even suggesting that these conditions will bring a "wild storm" over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Weather Alerts Ireland said that a large deep system is moving to the North West of Ireland bringing very strong winds and heavy rain to Ireland.

They said: "This system is brought in with the strenghtened jet stream and shows the expected low pressure dropping as low as 950hPa on the ECMWF model.

"The main ECMWF, UKMO, GFS and ICON EU models are showing this system.

"After this system and into next week it is looking very unsettled and stormy with a chance of a few storms impacting Ireland."

But Met Eireann has not confirmed that the country will be hit by a storm.

Here's what they are forecasting for the rest of the week.

Today: "Largely dry this morning with some sunny spells developing and just a few scattered patches of rain. A good deal of cloud for the afternoon and evening with a little patchy rain and drizzle. Winds will veer northwesterly in direction during the day and freshen. Highest temperatures ranging 12 to 15 degrees."

Tonight: "Any lingering patchy rain will ease on Wednesday night as clearer conditions move in from the west. Turning rather chilly overnight with minimum temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees with northwest breezes easing overnight."

Tomorrow: "Thursday looks set to begin cold and dry with sunny spells developing in the morning. Staying mainly dry for the afternoon but with a partial build-up of cloud. By evening a few patches of light rain are possible as cloud increases from the west. Top temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in moderate west or southwest breezes."

Friday: "Rain in the east will clear in the morning to leave a breezy day with bright spells and passing showers. Maximum temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in fresh west or southwest winds. Becoming increasingly windy on Friday night with outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving in. Minimum temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, occurring early in the night with strengthening southerly winds."

Saturday: "It looks set to be wet and windy with outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards followed by bright spells and showers. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in strong southerly winds, veering southwest later in the day. Cool and blustery on Saturday with clear spells and showers, some of the showers heavy and prolonged in the south and west with a risk of thunder. Minimum temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds."

Sunday: "A vigorous area of low pressure is expected to become positioned south of Iceland on Sunday feeding a strong and gusty west or southwest air-flow over Ireland. There'll be fairly widespread blustery showers, these most frequent across the west of the country. The best of any sunshine in eastern counties. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in strong west or southwest winds."
