Met Eireann has confirmed that wintry weather will hit the country next week as the influence of the Sudden Stratospheric Warming is set to take place over a three day stretch.
The Sudden Stratospheric Warming event, which happened just before Christmas, usually only shows its affects after some time and was the same sudden weather event that brought on the dreaded Beast from the East and Storm Emma.
Met Eireann has warned that Tuesday will be freezing through the evening and night with very cold air bringing "wintry showers" in the night time which will transfer over to the rest of the week.
They add: "Wednesday and Thursday will be very cold with sunny spells and occasional wintry showers hitting with sharp frost at night".
Kenneth McDonegh of the Donegal Weather Channel has said that while it's too early to predict exactly when and how heavy - there will be snowfall at some stage and Dublin and the east coast will be the worst hit.

Thursday: "Today will be dry in Dublin with sunny spells developing after a mostly cloudy start. Highest afternoon temperatures of 7 or 8 degrees with light to moderate northwest breezes. Tonight will be cold and dry with clear spells. Dense fog will develop in many areas during the night. Frost and icy patches will develop also with lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees."
Tomorrow: "Friday morning will be cold and dry with frost and fog gradually clearing. Some sunny spells will develop, but cloud will increase later in the day. Highest daytime temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees with freshening southerly winds. Friday night will be wet and breezy with rain spreading eastwards across the country and becoming widespread. It will be heavy at times. The rain will clear from most places by morning with clear spells and showers following from the west. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees with fresh, gusty southerly winds veering westerly as rain clears."
