Dublin is set to be lashed with "intense" rain as Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning.

The alert is in place from 8 pm today until 2 am tomorrow.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Further localised, intense rainfall and some thunderstorm activity with surface flooding this evening and for a time tonight."

The warning is in place for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, and Meath.

Tonight will be "cloudy with rain becoming patchy rain tonight".

The forecaster continued: "Misty in places too. Minimum temperatures of 9C to 11C, in a light northwest breeze.

"Cloudy to start on Thursday with patchy rain and mist, then drier, brighter conditions developing through the morning.

"Dry with sunny spells for much of the day, just a chance of a light shower along the coast. Afternoon highs of 17C to 19C and feeling warm in sunshine. Winds will be light westerly. High cloud will increase from the west later in the day."
