Dublin weather: Hottest day of year for Ireland follows low temperatures as Met Eireann predicts 15C swing

Ireland is to experience more glorious sunshine as we head into the weekend with temperatures reaching highs of 17C.

Outbreaks of rain and low temperatures of 2C overnight will spike to the near 20s during Friday, Saturday and Sunday with dry, warm and hazy sunshine promised.

Today will be warm, mostly along the coast, with the Celsius rising to 16C but it will turn mostly cloudy then tonight with a few showers and lowest temperatures of 3 to 8C.

Here's what Met Eireann says for the remainder of the week and into the weekend:

Friday: "The morning and early afternoon will be dry and mostly cloudy. Rain will spread northwards over the region through the late afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees with moderate easterly breezes.

"On Friday night, outbreaks of rain will gradually spread northwards to most areas. However, northern parts of Ulster will stay mainly dry. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 8 degrees, coldest in Ulster."

Saturday: It will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of showery rain in many areas. There'll be some drier intervals also. It will be cooler than previous days with highest temperatures ranging from 9 to 15 degrees, coolest in the east and mildest in west Munster with moderate easterly breezes."

Sunday: "It will bring a mix of bright or sunny spells and scattered showers, most especially in Leinster, Munster and Connacht. They'll be more isolated in Ulster. Highest temperatures 13 to 17 degrees with light to moderate easterly breezes.

Next week: "Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week will be mainly dry with sunny spells and perhaps one or two isolated showers in the south. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 or 17 degrees with moderate easterly winds."
