Dublin weather: Hottest 2020 days coming as Met Eireann forecasts low 20C in Ireland, Accuweather predicts 'heatwave'

Met Eireann is predicting that the Mercury is set to burst into the low 20s at the start of next week while Accuweather say we're going to be hit by a 'heatwave'.

Popular weather app Accuweather reckons Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will see temperatures leap into the low twenties across the country.

And the National Forecaster says that Tuesday and Wednesday will be exceptionally warm with temperatures in the mid-teen and low 20s on both days.

Looking to today though and Friday will be a cloudier day overall, although a few bright or sunny spells will still occur.

There is a chance of an odd shower during the afternoon but it will stay mostly dry.

Tonight will be mainly dry with cloud breaking up and clear spells developing. Some mist and fog patches forming with a touch of grass frost possible in places.

Highest temperatures today of 15C, dropping to a low 3C by nighttime.

Here's how the weekend is looking:

Saturday : "The best of any bright or sunny spells early on. Mostly cloudy by the afternoon, with some patchy light rain and drizzle possibly developing. Highs of 14 or 15 degrees in light west breezes.

"Mostly cloudy conditions persisting on Saturday night, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting mostly western and northern areas. Lows of 6 to 9 degrees in a light to moderate southwest breeze, increasing fresh and gusty near west and northwest coasts."

Sunday : "It's shaping up to be a mostly cloudy and breezy day across the west and north, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, becoming persistent and heavy in northern parts of Ulster later in the day. Over the rest of the country; largely dry for much of the day with a mix of cloud and bright or sunny intervals, but patchy rain and drizzle spreading here too in the evening. Any accumulations will be rather minimal in the east and south, however. Highs of 12 to 17 degrees in mostly moderate, occasionally gusty, southwest breezes, fresh to strong near west and northwest coasts.
Cloudy and misty on Sunday night, with occasional drizzle. Lows of 9 or 10 degrees. Southwest winds falling light overnight."

Monday : "It will be a milder day with occasional light rain or drizzle. Misty at times near Atlantic coasts. Some bright or hazy sunny spells developing at times but a good deal of cloud overall. Maximum temperatures 14 to 19 degrees in light to moderate southwest to south breezes."

The forecaster added: "At the moment it looks warm for Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures in the high teens or low 20's in a southerly airflow, though nearer to the mid teens near the South coast.

"Still some patchy light rain or drizzle about on Tuesday but Wednesday looks to be mainly dry. There'll be good sunny spells developing by day and nights will be relatively mild with some mist patches developing."
