Dublin weather: Heavy rain and thunder on the way but temperatures to jump to 23C throughout week

There's more heavy rain showers and thunder on the way to Dublin today but things will improve before the end of the weekend.

A sunny start is in store for the capital, and temperatures are going to reach 18C in what is sure to be a lovely day.

It's later this morning that the rain and thunder will make an appearance, but that's expected to clear out by this evening.

Overnight, conditions will be dry ahead of a humid beginning to the week.

Met Eireann says: "Today will start off dry with sunny spells. From late morning onwards, there'll be scattered heavy showers with a chance of thunder. They'll gradually die out this evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees with fresh gusty west to southwest winds.

"Much of tonight will be dry. However, rain will spread northeastwards over the region towards morning with fresh southerly winds. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees."

Later in the week

Monday will begin the humid conditions in the capital, with temperatures of 16C - and plenty of rain to go with it.

From Tuesday onward, temperatures will rise slightly and the humidity will continue.

With it will come more rain until things take a turn on Thursday.

Met Eireann currently predicts that the temperatures will jump to 23C and we'll have glorious sunshine to brighten up the spirits.

Met Eireann continued: "Monday will be mild, humid and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle.

"Tuesday will continue mild and humid with further spells of rain in many areas.

"Wednesday will continue mostly cloudy over the eastern half of the country with further outbreaks of rain. It will be drier and brighter further west.

"Thursday will be warm and dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 17 to 23 degrees, warmest in Leinster and east Munster with light breezes.

"At the moment it looks like Friday will start off dry, but rain will develop in the west and spread eastwards.

"Current indications suggest that next weekend will bring a fair amount of dry weather, but some showers also."
