Dublin weather: Heavy 'persistent' downpours forecast for week ahead with big drop in temperature

Heavy "persistent" showers are forecast for the week ahead with a big drop in temperature also on its way.

The rainy showers will push in later today with spells of hazy sunshine predicted for this morning.

It will become quite blustery as the day goes on with strong winds near the coast. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees.

The persistent rain will clear tonight but occasional showers will linger. The temperature won't get lower than 9 to 11 degrees.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow: "Largely dry tomorrow with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Just occasional showers, most frequent in the afternoon. Remaining blustery with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. Somewhat cool with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

Tomorrow night: " Generally dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Just one or two isolated showers. West to northwest winds becoming mainly light, though remaining somewhat blustery near coasts. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Tuesday: "Dull and wet for much of Tuesday. It will start off mainly dry, though rain will spread eastwards across the country in the morning and afternoon, persisting through the evening. Another cool day with highest temperatures of just 11 to 16 degrees. Mainly light westerly winds, remaining somewhat blustery along Atlantic coasts.

Tuesday night:
"The persistent rain will clear to the southeast on Tuesday night, though it will remain cloudy with scattered showers following for much of the country. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in mainly light north to northwest winds.

Wednesday:
"Wednesday will see a good deal of sunshine with some scattered showers throughout the day, though these will gradually become more isolated. Highest temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees in light northwesterly breezes.

Wednesday night: "Generally dry and clear. Minimum temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in light west to northwest breezes.

Thursday: "Largely dry on Thursday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Just a few isolated showers, especially towards the northeast of the country. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in light westerly winds, gradually backing southerly.

Further outlook: "Considerable uncertainty remains for the further outlook. Early indications are that Friday and the weekend will remain very unsettled with a good deal of wet weather."
