Dublin weather forecast: Rain set to hit as Met Eireann say a cold October Bank Holiday weekend is in store

After a few nice, dry sunny days, the city looks set to be hit by rain this evening with forecasters saying to expect a very cold bank holiday weekend that will see sharp ground frosts.

While today will start off dry with hazy sunshine with highs of 11 to 13C, the rain will hit this afternoon and evening.

Patchy rain will clear early tonight with temperatures dropping to as low as 6C.

And it looks set to get colder as the long weekend draws in.

Thursday will be bright and mainly dry with sunny spells and top temperatures of 12C.

Met Eireann say we can expect it to be very cold over the weekend with top temperatures on Saturday of just 5 to 8C.

The national forecast for Sunday and Monday reads: "Generally dry apart from a few coastal showers mainly in the north.

"Good sunny spells by day, but with typical afternoon temperatures only ranging 7 to 10 degrees, and the nights distinctly chilly with slight air and widespread sharp ground frosts with the risk of icy patches.

"Present signs are for little change going into the middle of next week."
