Dublin weather forecast: Met Eireann warns of 'risk of wintry showers' as conditions turn cold during the week

Weather conditions are set to take a turn in the coming days as widespread heavy showers, some wintry, are expected to hit Ireland.

Tonight we're going to have a cloudy night and there will be some rain.

Then Monday will bring plenty of rain with temperatures dropping as low as zero degrees with widespread frost.

Night time will see a "risk of showers turning wintry", particularly in the east, and that will continue into the week.

Dublin weather: Met Eireann predicts cloudy but dry Mother's Day

Met Eireann says: "A few clear spells but mostly cloudy overnight with showers becoming more widespread. Lows of 3 to 5 Celsius in light breezes. A few mist or fog patches will develop inland."

"Mostly cloudy on Monday with scattered rain showers. A more organised band of showery rain will spread from the west during the evening. Highs of 11 or 12 Celsius. Light southerly breezes will gradually veer westerly during the day and increase moderate.

"Monday night will be cloudy at first with showery rain clearing eastwards to scattered showers and good clear spells and later there is the risk of showers turning wintry. It will be cold with lowest temperatures of zero to +3 degrees and a widespread frost. Moderate winds will be west to northwesterly."

Dublin Weather: Temperatures to plummet to -1 on Saturday night as Met Eireann warn of wintry conditions for Ireland

Tuesday is expected to be the worst day of all, with temperatures reaching only 8C.

There will be a risk of hail, thunder and wintry showers and we can expect more of the same on Wednesday.

Met Eireann continued: "Tuesday will be a cold and blustery day with widespread heavy showers and the risk of hail and thunder. Some showers will turn wintry, especially over higher ground. Top temperatures will reach just 6 to 8 degrees. West to northwest winds will be moderate to fresh and gusty, but fresh to strong along Atlantic coasts.

"Tuesday night scattered showers will continue with the risk of turning wintry. It will be another cold night with lowest temperatures falling to around zero to +3 degrees with frost, especially over the eastern half of the country. Northwesterly winds will turn northerly and strengthen."
