Dublin weather forecast: Met Eireann warn of frost and ice on a chilly weekend for the capital

It's going to be a very cold weekend across the city with Met Eireann predicting overnight frost and ice with a changeable week in store.

Today will be mainly dry and bright but there is a chance of rain and hail later on with top temperatures of just 7 or 8C.

Temperatures will drop as low as 1 to 3C tonight while Saturday will be much the same with a chance of frost overnight.

The national forecast for the weekend says: "Saturday night: Dry in many areas, with a few clear spells, but mostly cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, mainly in Atlantic coastal counties.

"Minimum temperatures 0 to 4 Celsius, with a risk of frost where any breaks in cloud occur. Risk of fog also, in slack winds.

"Sunday: Mostly cloudy at first, with some patchy rain and drizzle in places, but becoming bright and mostly dry during the day, with sunny spells developing.

"However, a few scattered showers will occur along northern and eastern coasts. Cold, with maximum temperatures of 6 to 9 Celsius, in mostly moderate northerly breezes, fresh on exposed coasts.

"Sunday night will be mainly dry and clear, but very cold and frosty, with a risk of icy patches. Mist and fog patches also. Minimum temperatures 0 to -4 Celsius."

It's expected to stay quite cold on Monday and Tuesday although it's expected to get milder on Wednesday with temperatures returning to normal values for this time of the year.
