A status yellow snow/ice warning remains in place this morning for the whole of Ireland by Met Eireann as they forecast "wintry showers" for the capital on Tuesday.
The morning will start cold and frosty but will become a generally dry day with isolated showers which may turn wintry on higher ground.
Highest temperatures of 6C with fresh and gusty winds will drop to 0C in the night time.
Monday night will be mainly dry tonight with clear spells but it will be cold at first with some patchy frost.
Temperatures will increase overnight and will be generally 3 or 4 degrees by morning.
The snow and ice alert took affect at 10pm Monday night and will last until 12 noon on Tuesday.
It reads: "Hazardous conditions in places overnight and Tuesday morning due to compacted snow and ice.
"Further snow showers also, heaviest in the southwest, west and north."
Meanwhile there was travel chaos in Co Mayo this afternoon, as Ireland West Airport was blanketed in snow.
Several flights at the airport were cancelled, delayed and even diverted - some to Dublin Airport - as ground crew worked to clear the area.
Three flights from London Gatwick, London Stansted and East Midlands Airport had to be re-routed to Dublin.
There were also significant delays to departing flights and officials were forced to cancel scheduled journeys to Gatwick and Stansted.
A spokesman for Ireland West Airport said its operations team was attempting to clear the runway throughout the afternoon but were struggling due to the “continued heavy snowfall”.
