Dublin Weather Forecast: Met Eireann's Ireland prediction as UK threatened with 'Atlantic assault'

It may be May, but some little April showers are on the way for Dublin as Met Eireann have forecast a drizzly affair for the week.

The news comes as parts of the UK were slapped with a 'polar plunge' over the weekend, but the Irish weather gurus have reassured us we're safe.

Today will see some bright and sunny spells - and it's going to be great "in most parts" of the capital.

They said: "Tuesday will bring a few bright or short sunny spells, though overall cloudy for the day. While it will be dry in most parts, there'll be some patchy rain or drizzle at times too.

"Still cool, given the time of year with highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees Celsius, in light to moderate southeasterly breezes."

Tonight will see rain slowly get heavier, while Wednesday will gradually get wetter as the day goes on.

He said: "Outbreaks of rain will gradually move up from the south overnight with some heavy falls. Mist and poor visibility too. Lowest temperatures 4 to 7 degrees Celsius, in mostly moderate easterly breezes, fresh near coasts."

"A damp or wet start to Wednesday with further falls of rain.

"Rain will tend to break up into showers into the afternoon with some sunny spells.

"However, some of the showers could turn heavy. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. Northeast winds will increase moderate to fresh at times, especially around showers."

WEEKEND

A gradual return to more seasonal temperatures over the weekend (still cold by night though). Some scattered showers are signalled on Saturday but overall a lot of dry weather on Sunday. Winds won't be particularly strong either day; northerly to begin, later shifting to a southerly direction.
