Dublin weather forecast: Mainly sunny day in store but it's not looking good for Electric Picnic

Thousand of Dubs will be heading for Portlaoise this weekend for Electric Picnic and it looks like they may have to bring their rain gear and their wellies.

After a cloudy start to this morning, it's expected to brighten up this afternoon with highs of 17 to 19C although there is a chance of isolated showers.

Met Eireann predict Thursday will be quite blustery although it will be generally dry with sunny spells and temperatures between 16 to 19C.

But as music lovers get set to hit the N7 and head for Stradbally for the weekend, the rain is predicted to hit hard.

The weekend forecast reads: "Friday looks set to be an increasingly wet day for much of the country.

"Eastern areas may start out fairly dry at first, but outbreaks of rain look likely to spread to most parts during the course of the day, with some heavy falls expected in Atlantic coastal counties.

"Top temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees. Fresh and gusty southwest winds will fall away light southerly or variable for a time in the afternoon and evening.

"Friday night will be very wet and locally windy conditions, with a risk of spot flooding. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees."

The heavy rain looks like it will give way to bright or sunny spells on Saturday afternoon but there is a chance of heavy rain and thunder later in the day.

Sunday will be fresh and cool with a chance of heavy showers and high temperatures of 13 to 16C.
