Dublin weather forecast: Cold front on the way with temperatures plunging below freezing

It's a damp and cloudy start to the weekend in Dublin and things won't get much better this week with temperatures set to plummet below zero.

Met Eireann say there is a strong chance of frost as temperatures tumble late next week.

Before that we will enjoy a mild few days but with plenty of strong winds and heavy rain on the horizon.

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will give way to a more organised band of rain this afternoon while gusty southerly winds will strengthen through the day, becoming strong with gales on the coast.

Showers will clear later tonight as temperatures drop to 5 or 6C.

There will be more scattered showers tomorrow although there will be some bright and sunny spells with highs of 11C.

It will continue to be wet, mild and windy until Wednesday when temperatures will drop dramatically.

There will be strong southwest winds on Monday with rain in the west extending eastwards by the afternoon and highs of 12 or 13C.

Temperatures will reach as high as 15C on Tuesday although patchy rain in the south and west will spread countrywide overnight.

Wednesday will initially bring some showers with highs of 9 to 10C before a cold front crosses the country, bringing a dramatic drop in temperature.

Wednesday night will be cold with highs of just 3 to 5C before a freezing day on Thursday where there will be afternoon highs of just 7 to 9C before plummeting to overnight lows of -2C with a strong chance of frost.

Friday will be cool and mostly dry, with the possibility of rain by evening and highs of just 5 to 8C.
