Dublin weather: Dramatic drop in temperature as mini heatwave comes to an end

The Indian summer in Dublin is set to come to an end with temperatures dropping dramatically this week.

The city basked in balmy heat last week but Met Eireann say that's about to come to an end as temperatures drop to normal levels for this time of the year and there's even a chance of frost later in the week.

There will be nice sunny spells today with highest temperatures of 15 to 16C and it will remain dry tonight although it will be cool with highs of 5 to 7C.

Mist and fog patches on Monday morning will give way to another bright and sunny day with highs of 18 to 20C.

But the national outlook for the rest of the week is unsettled with showers and plummeting temperatures on the way.

Here's the national forecast for next week.

Tuesday: An unsettled day as a band of persistent rain will move into western areas in the afternoon, spreading eastwards during the day and clearing to showers in the west in the evening.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 18C, in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, veering northwesterly and easing as the rain moves through.

Rain will clear eastern areas overnight, becoming largely clear but cloudier with showers in western areas. Temperatures will drop to between 6 and 9C in mostly light west to northwest breezes.

Wednesday: A cool and unsettled day with showers becoming widespread through the afternoon and highs of 11 to 13C. There will be further showers or longer spells of rain mainly in western parts of the country on a cold Wednesday night as temperatures drop to 2 to 6C with grass frost possible.

Further outlook: Staying rather unsettled with further rain and showers. Cool during the days with temperatures below average for the time of year.
