Dublin weather as Met Eireann forecasts 'wintry falls' in Ireland with temperatures hitting -1C

Met Eireann has said that Ireland's temperatures will mostly remain at zero or below for the rest of the week and into the weekend.

For Wednesday, they are forecasting "wintry falls" possibly on higher ground with a risk of hail and thunder.

There will also be outbreaks of rain which will become persistent and heavy towards evening.

Temperatures will drop to 0 in the night time with frost and icy patches visible by dawn.

Met Eireann added that Wednesday would be cold and breezy with possible wintry conditions over Leinster leading to snow on hills and mountains.

They added: "The rain and sleet will clear southwards overnight with clear periods following and with frost and icy patches developing."

For Thursday, Met Eireann say: "Any residual showers near the coast should clear by afternoon, to leave cold, crisp and sunny spells.

"Maximum temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees but feeling chillier in the brisk northerly winds, which will be strong and gusty near coasts.

On Thursday night they added that showers will persist along the east coast of Leinster.

Temperatures will drop to -1C with frost forming and fresh to strong and gusty winds near the coasts.

There's also two warnings in place for the whole country.

A status yellow gale warning was issued at 6am meaning "northwest winds will become northeast and will reach gale force 8 this afternoon and evening on Irish Coastal Waters from Mizen Head to Loop Head to Slyne Head.

As well as this, a status yellow small craft warning was issued in two different parts.

They said: "Winds between southwest and northwest will reach force 6 or 7 this morning and afternoon on Irish Coasts from Carnsore Point to Mizen Head to Erris Head."

They added: "East to northeast winds will reach force 6 or 7 Wednesday afternoon and evening on Irish Coasts from Slyne Head to Fair Head to Carnsore Point.
