Storm Francis Ireland forecast: 110km/h gusts to batter country today as three warnings issued by Met Eireann

Three weather warnings are in place by Met Eireann today all over Ireland as Storm Francis with gusts of up to 110km/h hits the country leading a trail of flooding in its wake.

There is a status orange rainfall warning for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Wexford, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

Met Eireann warns: "Intense rainfall associated with Storm Francis is expected at times Monday night and Tuesday, leading to accumulations of 40 to 60mm (higher values in mountainous areas).

"The most intense rainfall is expected to ease off in southern counties during Tuesday morning. Some flash flooding likely. This rainfall will further elevate river levels and may result in river flooding also."

This warning is in place until 5pm this evening while two warnings are issued for Dublin.

A status yellow wind warning was issued for Munster, Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow from 6am this morning until 7pm tonight.

It means: "Very windy or stormy conditions are expected on Tuesday as Storm Francis crosses Ireland. Southwest winds veering westerly, reaching mean speeds of 55 to 65km/h, will bring widespread gusts of 90 to 110km/h (and possibly higher in exposed areas)."

As well as this, a 24-hour status yellow, rainfall warning is in place for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary and has been valid from 9pm Monday until 9pm tonight.

Met Eireann added :"Intense rainfall associated with Storm Francis is expected at times Monday night and Tuesday, leading to accumulations of 30 to 50mm with surface flooding. This rainfall will further elevate river levels and may result in river flooding also."

This is how the next few days including today and tonight are looking according to Met Eireann.

TUESDAY : "Wet and windy conditions today as Storm Francis crosses the country. Rain will ease for a time this morning, but will return during the afternoon and evening with some heavy falls at times. It will be very windy, with strong to near gale and gusty southerly winds in the morning, veering westerly during the afternoon. Gales will also develop near the coast at times. Afternoon temperatures of 14 or 15 degrees."

TONIGHT : "Mostly dry tonight with some clear spells developing. Windy at first with strong and gusty westerly winds, but these will gradually ease to moderate overnight. Lowest temperatures of around 13 degrees."

WEDNESDAY : "Tomorrow, there will be sunny spells and well scattered showers. Showers will become more frequent and heavy at times later in the day. Highest temperatures of 16 or 17 degrees with light to moderate westerly or variable breezes."



THURSDAY : "There will be widespread showers on Thursday, heavy and possibly thundery at times. Showers could also merge into longer spells of rain in places. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees with light south to southeast breezes. Showers will continue across the southern half of the country on Thursday night, with northern areas becoming mostly dry with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees."

FRIDAY : "The end of the week will see further showers, most frequent and heaviest across the eastern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees, coolest in northern areas as winds turn to a northerly direction. It will be quite breezy near coasts, with strong northerly winds, mostly moderate elsewhere. Showers will die out from most areas on Friday night, although there may be a few light showers in the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees."



SATURDAY AND SUNDAY : "The weekend is looking mostly dry with sunny spells, although a few showers are likely in the west and northwest. Highest temperatures on both days of 14 to 17 degrees, with light to moderate north to northwest breezes."
