Dublin veteran Conal Keaney announces inter-county retirement after two decades in blue

Conal Keaney has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling after two decades with Dublin.

The Ballyboden St Enda's forward, 38, hangs up the boots having represented the Boys in Blue in both codes in a stellar career.

Despite injuries limiting his game time in recent seasons, Keaney turned back the clock with one of his greatest performances at the age of 36 when the Dubs eliminated Galway from the All-Ireland Championship in summer 2019.

Keaney retires with a Leinster SHC medal as well as an Allianz League medal in hurling, and he also earned five Leinster SFC medals from his time with the Dublin footballers between 2004 and 2010.

Keaney made his Dublin debut in 2001, and Dublin GAA have congratulated the veteran on his career as they made the announcement on Twitter.

Dublin GAA said: "Conal Keaney has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling this morning. An incredible career over two decades in the blue jersey. Thanks for everything, Conal".

Keaney tweeted: "Thanks for a great 20 years @dublingaa. It was a great journey but the time has come".
