Dublin uninsured driver found with killer weapon in routine garda patrol

A routine COVID patrol by gardai in Dublin yesterday unearthed an uninsured driver who could have been a serious threat to life.

Gardai from Dun Laoghaire stopped the vehicle they were driving and found they did not have the required insurance.

But a search of the car's glove compartment also revealed a potentially killer knife being carried around by the driver.

Thankfully the quick thinking by gardai ensured that they were taken off the road and were arrested, with the vehicle seized.

Gardai said: "Dun Laoghaire Gardaí stopped this vehicle while on Covid patrol yesterday afternoon. Checks on the Mobility App showed that the driver was not insured and a search revealed a knife in the glove compartment. The driver was arrested and vehicle seized."

Gardai to continue to carry out patrols across Dublin and all of Ireland as part of COVID-19 regulations.

In an update last night, they said: "Gardaí are continuing high visibility patrols and checkpoints across the country in support of public health regulations."
