A dopey driver was stopped for speeding on the M50 overnight - and then tested positive for cannabis.
Gardai this morning told how the motorist was stopped after being detected breaking the speed limit on Dublin's busy ring road - and was then arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
The force's social media team posted a photograph of a drug reading on their Twitter account which showed that the driver tested positive for cannabis.
They tweeted: "DMR (Dublin Metropolitan Region) Garda RPU (Roads Policing Unit) detected the driver of a car on the M50 in excess of the speed limit.
"Driver arrested on suspicion of Drug Driving. Proceedings to follow."
The post ends with a wise warning to motorists: "Never drive under the influence."
Unfortunately for one driver in Rathmines, that cautionary message came too late - as the below tweet shows.
Road cops were busy in neighbouring Co Kildare yesterday too, with An Garda Siochana's Naas Roads Policing Unit on a checkpoint yesterday seizing three three cars after they were found to have no insurance.
It's going to be a very warm day today with temperatures tipped to hit a sweltering 28C in Dublin.
However, the extremely warm weather means a weather warning is in place for this evening with thunderstorms and showers expected - so do be careful if you're driving, and for heaven's sake, don't drink or use drugs if you're behind the wheel.
