Dublin theatre posts tweet slamming current Covid-19 crowd restrictions

Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre posted a tweet slamming the government’s current Covid-19 restrictions.

The theatre pointed at the difference in the numbers allowed to attend sporting events and plays after 24,000 flocked to Croke Park for the All-Ireland hurling semi-final.

They said: “To the 50 people attending today’s Matinee at the Gaiety, please allow extra time to travel as there are 24,000 people travelling to Croke Park.”

Currently the maximum number of people allowed in a theatre’s auditorium is 50, including staff, cast and crew.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is set to announce a timetable for the ending of all lockdown restrictions before the end of the month.

This will signal the official ending of the third pandemic lockdown.

A roadmap for the easing or removal of remaining restrictions will be published within the next few weeks.

The tweet quickly gained traction online.

One twitter user said: “Just doesn't feel we're all being treated equally.”

Another said: “Sure hurling is an art.”
