Dublin teenagers left shaken after being threatened with screwdriver by muggers in Knocklyon

A group of six teenage boys were left badly shaken after two muggers threatened them with a screwdriver in a south Dublin estate.

The thugs stole a bike, phones and cash from the teens after approaching them claiming to be gardai in Woodfield Estate, Knocklyon.

The muggers are understood to have approached the group brandishing torches and questioned them before one of the men took out a screwdriver and threatened to stab the boys in the neck if they didn't hand over their phones, money and a bicycle, Dublin Live reports.

The cruel thieves even made the boys remove their passwords from their phones and unlink from cloud services.

None of the youths were injured in the incident but were said to be badly shaken following their ordeal. The bike was later recovered in another part of the estate.

A local neighbourhood group urged parents to remind their teens to stay in visible areas to deter muggers.

They said: "Although these situations don’t happen very often and teens are usually safe to hang out anywhere ,please remind teens that at night it’s best to remain visible to the public when possible, as this looks less attractive to would be thieves/muggers/criminals than when possible victims are hidden out of sight."

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live they were investigating the incident.

She said: "Gardai are investigating an incident of theft which occurred in Woodfield Estate, Knocklyon, Co. Dublin at approximately 9:30pm on the 18th of September 2019.

"A group of teenagers were approached by two males allegedly armed with a screwdriver.

"A number of items were taken from their person. No injuries were sustained."
