Dublin teenager dominates opening stages of British race car competition

A Tallaght teenager is currently dominating a teenage motorsport competition in the UK.

Daire Flock, aged 15, has been juggling studying for his Junior Cert and frequent travel to the UK to race wheel-to-wheel in the Junior Saloon Car Championship.

The competition is open to 14-17 year-olds who get the opportunity to race in Citroen Saxo’s at some of the best venues around the UK. Daire first joined the competition last year and placed sixth overall.

This year, the Dublin youngster is the man to beat after winning six of the first eight races of the season. His eyes are currently set on finishing the year in first place with his team Westbourne Motorsport before moving on to endurance racing next year.

"I feel that the season is going really well after getting six wins out of eight races," Daire told Dublin Live. "My plans for next season is the move up to Renault Clio's in Brit car which is endurance racing and to do a little bit of historic racing in various different cars."

The teenager grew up in a family well involved in motorsport, with his dad previously competing in Formula Ford. Daire first rode a motorcycle at just three years old and said his "dream has been to race cars for as long as can remember".

Daire's mum Lorraine told Dublin Live that "it's great" to see him doing so well in this year's competition as motorsport is "his passion".

"He works very hard, it's tough travelling to and from the UK every couple of weeks," she said. "This is his passion and it's all that he wants to do."

Daire's family are seeking sponsors and donations to help support his racing career. You can make a donation and keep updated on Daire's career on his website.
