Dublin teen Shauna Byrne, 16, tipped for stardom after performing on the Voice UK

An Irish teen has been tipped for stardom after a show-stopping performance on The Voice UK.

Shauna Byrne, 16, from Malahide in north Dublin, wowed the judges with an incredible rendition of Shawn Mendes' If I Can't Have You.

Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am was particularly impressed, turning his chair to see the rest of Shauna's song.

Praising her, he said: "I sensed a little bit of nerves which is great because that's normal. I like your voice so much that I want to work with you.

"There's so much room to grow. And by the end of the competition people are going to be wishing they turned for you."

Meanwhile, American singer Meghan Trainor added: "I'm so glad Will turned around. I'm so glad you're on the show. I'm so proud of you. I salute you. I think you're amazing."

Will.i.am chose Shauna as one of his acts and she was thrilled.

She said:"I'm so excited to work with Will I really want to show him what I can do. I'm really excited to see what we can do together."

Shauna revealed how she's had a lifelong passion for singing and music and can't imagine doing anything else.

Speaking ahead of her performance, she said: "I've been singing since I can remember and it's really all I've ever wanted to do.

"I do kind of find myself sometimes in class daydreaming [about] making it somewhere as a singer.

"I definitely am nervous for the blind audition. It is the biggest thing that I've ever done."

The spirited youngster added: "Me, a girl, from a small town in Ireland, doing the Voice UK it's crazy. Not a lot of 16-year-olds get this opportunity at all.

"If I give it my best I'll be proud of myself whatever happens. I'm just going to really really try my best and hopefully show them my potential."

And Shauna's proud mum Miriam said: "She was always singing. We were always kind of saying, 'Shauna, we need some quiet in the house' but she just loves belting."
