Dublin TD starts rats out petition calling for 'emergency action' on infestation

A petition has started online calling for immediate action from Dublin City Council to get the rat problem in the city centre under control.

Rats create an unsafe environment for children in the city as well as a public health hazard for the general public.

And now a local TD and a councillor have created an online petition calling on the council to get the dangerous rat problem under control.

Sinn Fein's Chris Andrews TD and Cllr Daniel Ceitinn are both calling on DCC, as well as the HSE, to take meaningful action on the infestation plaguing the capital.

In particular, the pair want officials to attack rat infestations in locations that they thrive, like sewers.

Andrews and Ceitinn will bring this petition to the Government after the summer recess.

While the HSE is responsible for pest control in the region, the pair DCC to take a far more active role in improving the city's rat problem.

One area where DCC should take the lead - according to the petition - is in maintaining a high hygiene standard in residential complexes and apartment blocks in the city centre.

Keeping these areas clean will make them less appealing to rats. Making sure rats don't have easy access to bins is also a target for the petition.
