Dublin TD 'looking forward' to restrictions being eased next week

A Dublin TD has said he is "looking forward" to the remaining Covid-19 restrictions being eased on Friday next week.

A recent spike in cases sent a wave of unease about the final easement through the Cabinet this week.

The requirement of a vaccine cert to take part in indoor dining and other activities was due to end on October 22 but now the Government is understood be considering extending their use.

However, Fianna Fail TD Paul McAuliffe told Q102 that the crucial date has to mean "going forward".

He said: "October 22 has to mean us going forward - not going backwards. Whatever few restrictions are left, particularly around social distancing and mask wearing, we want to see them come to an end.

"But done in a way that doesn't put us backwards. I will be looking forward to a lot of restrictions being lifted on the 22. It will come down then to the idea of personal safety, educate and best practice."

The Government is expected to make a decision on the easement of restrictions on Monday or Tuesday this week.
