A petition has been set up on change.org which calls for the suspension of taxi drivers who have pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault.
The petition was created early on Thursday morning and has already gathered nearly 300 of the 500 signatures asked for as of 4pm.
This comes after a taxi driver operating in Dublin was allowed to drive while on bail as long as he carried no female passengers in the front seat

A man named Declan Corr - who is also a taxi driver - set up the petition on the website and believes that "taxi drivers and the general public want drivers who have pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault to be suspended from driving a taxi until such trial is complete".
The organiser added that the "trial of a recent taxi driver who was named in the media is a joke. Allowing this driver to only carry female passengers in the back seat - What if he gets 4 female passengers?"
He said that "this and other serious sexual assaults recently are giving the industry a bad name."

Declan believes that any driver who has pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault should have their SPSV licences revoked.
He concluded: "The public need to have trust in the people driving then home and decisions like this will harm the industry.
"I am concerned for the safety of people who want to be able to use public transport without fear.
