Dublin star Jonny Cooper on how his GAA club are helping the local community

Dublin star Jonny Cooper has revealed what his local GAA club are doing to help their community during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Na Fianna man told how his club are helping older people in Glasnevin and the surrounding area with their shopping, getting medication or just calling by to say hello.

Speaking on RTE's Claire Byrne Live on Monday night, Cooper said: "I think first and foremost, credit to Niall McGovern, one of my teammates who brought it to the table a couple of weeks ago - well a week and half ago at this stage.

"I guess it's just for those in our community - who are from such a fantastic community here in Glasnevin and the surrounding area - is that for those that maybe, because of the lockdown that Leo [Varadkar} announced last week - maybe those that can't move around because of mobility and a couple of other reasons that us, as players who have gotten so much from the club in general, maybe we would be able to help them out a little whether that's shopping or medication or maybe just popping in to say 'hi' - well not popping in anymore but going by to say 'hello' from a distance I guess.

"So that's what we're doing the last couple of days...just to get the network out there and see if people need a bit of a helping hand with whatever way we can help.

"We have an email set up - it's community@clgnafianna.ie - we've had a couple of people from around the area wanting us to grab them some groceries and a few different things."

He added: "It's very much open and alive if anyone else wants to ask the question and what we do is then put it out to the squad, to team, our senior team, our senior hurlers and Ladies' team as well."
