Dublin Sister Sheds to support Climb with Charlie by hiking Howth cliff walk

Dublin's Sister Sheds will support Charlie Bird's Croagh Patrick climb by hiking the Howth cliff walk to raise money for charity.

Former RTE journalist Charlie will climb the mountain on April 2 to raise awareness for motor neurone disease - a disease he himself has been battling.

Pieta House and The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association are the two charities who will benefit from the climb.

The Dublin Sister Shed's was formed in October and have been bringing women in the capital together over the past few months.

Their weekly sessions offer a safe space for women to have an open dialogue and bond with one another and they have eight Sheds set up in the capital.

Founders Rachel and Shereen Hughes have organised a climb on the same day to show their support for Charlie and Vicky.

They told Dublin Live: "We think it's absolutely amazing that they are doing this and we want to support them in anyway that we can."

They are climbing to the Cliffs of Howth so many of their members will be able to attend.

They said: "When I watched the Late Late Show I said, we're so able bodied right now thank God and maybe we should try to raise funds.

"If Vicky Phelan and Charlie Bird can climb Croagh Patrick then why wouldn't we do it.

"So we asked everyone to come if they're interested or they can even just raise money.

"What we'll do is, we'll put on a big lunch spread after. There's an organisation in Tallaght called Helping Hand. They have been very helpful to Tallaght Sister Sheds and they had said they would put on a big lunch spread together with us on the beach so we had that as an incentive."

All of the money they raise will be given to Charlie's fundraiser.

They added: "Loads of women wanted to do it. We're on about 25 women now and it's growing and growing.

"We got them sponsor cards so we can feed into the Charlie fund, so when they all get the cash we're going to lodge it into the account and throw it all of into Charlie's fundraiser.

"Even women who aren't physically able to do it, they're out fundraising and they'll meet us afterwards on the beach. I just think it's amazing."
