Dublin set to be battered by more bad weather as Met Eireann forecast possible floods for Ireland

Met Eireann have warned that there could flooding later this week - but the good news is today and tomorrow will see a bit of respite after a violent few days.

Dublin has been battered by hail, heavy rain, and even heavier winds over the past seven days but today will be a little less violent.

Conditions will be milder while heavy showers are going to hit later tonight - but there will only be the odd outbreak during the day.

Met Eireann say: "Wednesday will be a blustery and mostly overcast day, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Occasional drier spells too, the best of these later this afternoon and evening. South to southwest winds will increase fresh to strong, with maximum temperatures 9 or 10 Celsius, so somewhat milder than recent days.

"Further falls of rain into tonight, heaviest later in the night. Misty too, as southwest to west winds ease. Cold, with lows of 1 to 3 degrees."

Things will be a little better tomorrow with a few scattered showers and strong breezes.

They said: "The last of the overnight rain will quickly clear into the Irish Sea on Thursday morning. Sunshine and scattered showers will follow for the rest of the day. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees. Westerly breezes will be brisk at times, especially around any showers."

National Forecast

Experts have yet to give a specific Dublin prediction for the weekend - but they have given a general indication for the whole island.

Here's what they say:

FRIDAY

A wet and windy day, with spells of rain, heaviest across Connacht and west Ulster with the risk of flooding. Parts of the southeast may stay dry until the afternoon.

However, rain will continue in the evening hours. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees, in strong and gusty southwest winds. Rain on Friday night, clearing from the northwest to scattered blustery showers. Lows of 4 to 8 degrees.

THIS WEEKEND

Feeling cold and windy on Saturday, with bright spells and passing showers, some wintry in the northwest. Becoming mostly dry for the late afternoon and evening.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 9 Celsius, with an added wind-chill factor owing to fresh to strong westerly winds. On Saturday night persistent rain will extend from the Atlantic with the risk of flooding.

The rain and high winds are likely to continue on into Sunday but the detail is uncertain. At least it should feel a little milder with temperatures rising in the double figures.
