Dublin Senior A Hurling Championship: Parnell Park scoreboard tells the story on weekend of lobsided scorelines

The goals column on the Parnell Park scoreboard only has room for a single digit.

It sounds fair enough - even if you're watching an absolute battering, you'd barely, if ever, bother wasting the power of turning it on.

Best to just leave it then. One digit's enough. Top of the line games at Parnell Park, sure who'll score ten goals?

St Vincent's figured out the fatal flaw this weekend, in added time of their 44-point win over Naomh Fionnbarra at the Donnycarney venue.

Conor Burke went through to score a goal in added time - Vinnie's TENTH of the game.

The scoreboard simply couldn't take it - maybe they'll have to add a single 1 on the side in time for next year.

The quick thinking staff got the score up as 9-30, instead of 10-27 and, luckily to spare any further confusion, the final whistle blew shortly thereafter.

And that wasn't the only hammering handed out over the weekend.

The winning margins, in the final round of group play in Dublin's top hurling championship, were as follows, from lowest up: 8, 9, 11, 14, 25, 29, 42, 44.

Ballyboden St Enda's put six goals past Setanta in a dead rubber on Friday with progress to the quarter-finals already secure.

Conor Dooley managed 2-10 while Paul Doherty, Luke McDwyer, and Eoghan O'Neill also raising green flags in a mammoth 6-26 to 0-05 victory.

An early Colin Currie brace set Na Fianna coasting on their way to a 5-24 0-14 win over O'Toole's, David Treacy scored 0-9 to add to Nicky Kenny's 1-4 from the bench as Cuala beat Ballinteer St John's 1-32 0-06 while Cian McBride's 3-4 led the way for Vincent's in their mammoth win.

The 16-team format will surely be called into question after this weekend's results, with the gap between haves and have nots clear for all to see.

The quarter final draw throws up a tasty Southside derby between Cuala and Kilmacud Crokes, while Vincent's will play Boden, Na Fianna face St Brigid's, and Lucan Sarsfields take on Craobh Chiarain.

In the relegation play-offs, Ballinteer St Johns will face O’Tooles, while Setanta will take on Naomh Fionbarra, with all fixtures being played the weekend of September 21/22.
