Dublin schoolgirl in ICU after horror freak accident leaving her with serious head injuries

A Dublin schoolgirl is in a serious condition in ICU with head and facial injuries after a horror fall in Spain.

The teen is understood to have suffered the five-metre fall while sitting on a wall in the city of Granada.

The incident happened near the tourist attraction Fuente del Avellano (Avellano fountain) at around 10pm on Friday night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene before taking the girl to the city's hospital where she is currently still in ICU according to local reports.

Spanish authorities say that the girl is a secondary school student in Dublin with police launching an investigation into the freak accident.

A local councillor confirmed the news saying that the young teen was socialising with pals in the street when the incident happened.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said: "We are aware of the case and providing consular assistance”.
