Dublin school closed 'until further notice' as parents given urgent Covid letter update

A south Dublin school has confirmed to parents and guardians that it will be closed "until further notice" due to Covid-19 just one day after reopening.

It was only on Monday that more than 300,000 students returned to classrooms across the country for the first time since December after pandemic restrictions were lifted.

But the southside school, which has been closed since Tuesday, said the shutting down situation was "beyond their control".

They told parents and guardians: "We will be closed on March 2 and will remain closed until further notice. We are currently working closely with the HSE and we will forward any updates we receive via text and email over the coming days.

"Teachers will be calling their students and will continue with remote teaching methods already in place.

"All the staff and our BOM would like to thank you in advance for cooperating with us as we navigate our way through this challenging situation."

They added: "If you/your child develops any symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 infection (such as a cough, a fever, loss or change in sense of taste or smell), please do not send your child to school, contact your GP and begin restricting your child’s movements, as per public health advice.

"Restricted movement means avoiding contact with other people and social situations as much as possible. It is also sometimes called ‘self-quarantine’.

"Further information on COVID-19 is available at: www.hse.ie."

It comes after a separate COVID-19 case was confirmed at a school on the northside of the capital yesterday.

The Holy Family School for the Deaf on the Navan Road said on Monday that an infection had been notified to health officials.

They told parents that any close contacts will be informed, and if children develop symptoms they must contact their GP.
