Dublin's Parliament Street is set to go traffic-free from this weekend until the end of August.
Dublin City Council is reminding the public that the implementation of a traffic-free Parliament Street at the weekends begins this Saturday morning. Every Saturday and Sunday from July 1 to late August from 11am to 11pm, pedestrians and cyclists will be encouraged to enjoy the street without the presence of cars.
Last year, traffic-free trials also took place on Parliament Street on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 6.30pm to 11pm. This year as the latest traffic-free arrangements begin, there will be a number of family friendly activities taking place on Parliament Street on Saturday, 1 July and Sunday, 2 July from 1pm to 6pm.

There will be magic makers, face painters, giant games and loads of fun for all the family. There will be traffic management on site during the hours of the traffic-free arrangement.
In a statement, Dublin City Council said feedback from last year’s trials and others conducted in 2021 found that people wanted “more family friendly times”.
Emergency vehicle access will still be maintained at all times as the emergency services will be able to access all locations on Parliament Street.
According to Dublin City Council while the traffic-free trial begins on Parliament Street this weekend, deliveries can be made on the street up to 11am. Essex Quay and Essex Street will also remain open with local access maintained between Essex Gate and Essex Street East.
Permanent changes to Parliament Street are currently being finalised as part of the City Centre Transport Study, a draft of which will be published for public consultation in August or September.
