Dublin's oldest pub celebrates over 800 years in business

Dublin's oldest pub is celebrating 824 years of service, having served thirsty locals and tourists alike since 1198.

The Brazen Head on Lower Bridge Street has survived famines, wars and economic turmoil all while serving impressive pints of Guinness. They have also seen some famous trad musicians play to lucky crowds inside their pub.

The historic bar is now asking people to share their best memories from years gone by. They tweeted: "The Brazen Head. It Never Gets Old!

"They say age is only a number, but 824 years service seems pretty epic to us! Help us celebrate our Birthday by sharing this little taste of The Brazen Head. We would love to hear your #BrazenMoments."

A recent study also showed that The Brazen Head was the fifth oldest restaurant in the world being predated by by only a couple of hundred years by three European and one Chinese spot.

Fans of the beloved landmark were eager to wish the establishment a happy birthday with many tourists saying they would fly over in a heartbeat for one of its pints.

One person said: "I met my husband there!"

Another wrote "The Brazen Head reminds me of lunchtime with colleagues from around the corner on Merchant’s Quay. Some great memories."

A third commented: "If I could afford the flight from Oregon I’d be there. Happy birthday!"
