Dublin's Most Battered Bridge with 'more hits than the Beatles' claims two new victims in two days

Dublin's Most Battered Bridge has lived up to its reputation at the start if March, claiming two new victims in two days.

A van was left wedged underneath the infamous overpass in Mulhuddart today.

And the accident just 24 hours after another lorry scalped itself trying to go under the Shanty Bridge on the Blakestown Road .

The bridge has grown a reputation as one of the most infamous bridges not just in the capital, but in the country.

The notorious Mulhuddart structure that takes the N3 across the Blakestown Road saw over a dozen accidents last year as truckers were frequently caught out by the troublesome 2.6m clearance.

Safety measures - including a new electronic warning sign that some locals claim isn't always turned on - have so far failed to halt the spate of crashes at the notorious black spot.

The bridge claimed its first victim of the new year on February 17, when a white truck was spotted reversing away after seemingly smashing head first into the bridge with significant damage, buckling the top and popping a side door off its hinges.

The Bridge even has a Facebook page set up to document the many trials and tribulations of unlucky motorists that stumble into unfortunate incidents.

And Ireland's Most Battered Bridge brought us news of the latest accident today, joking: "our bridge has more hit than the Beatles".

Dublin Live have contacted An Garda Siochana about these latest smashes.
