Dublin's most battered bridge takes yet another hit after being struck by van

Dublin's most battered bridge continues to live up to its name after a van struck its roof off the low overpass on Tuesday morning.

Shanty Bridge in Mulhuddart is no stranger to getting belts, as the 2.6m high pass-over regularly catches out larger vehicles.

The structure takes the N3 across the Blakestown Road and has been hit dozens of times this year.

Accidents at the bridge are so common that locals run a Facebook page named "Ireland's most battered bridge" to report on the latest unlucky drivers who fall victim to the low flyover.

On Tuesday morning a truck became the latest vehicle to fall victim to the 8.5ft high bridge, with the page saying: "Tuesday blues for this driver, 17th August 2021."

Locals quickly expressed their annoyance at the post, saying drivers should be aware of the height of their vehicles.

One said: "Another one bites the dust can people not read the sign."

Another commented: "That fu**in bridge has had more hits than Dermot Kennedy the last two years."
