Dublin's Liffey levels hit scary highs as Ireland battered by stormy weather

Dubliners have been nervy this evening as The Liffey appears to be close to overflowing.

A scary pic shows the waters level extremely high as a Yellow Weather Warning is in place overnight.

Met Eireann say temperatures will take a dip tonight while wind and rain are ramping up.

It could also be extremely cold dropping as low as -1C in some parts of the country.

The capital is set to escape the big freeze although the rain is set to be persistant.

They said: "It will continue very windy early tonight with strong and gusty southerly winds, but winds will decrease light to moderate overnight. Further outbreaks of rain early tonight also but the rain will quickly clear northwards, with just the odd shower overnight. Overnight lows of 6 degrees.

"Some showers about at first on Thursday morning, the showers turning to longer spells of rain in the late afternoon and early evening. Highest temperatures of 9 or 10 degrees, in light to moderate southeasterly breezes."
