Dublin's first ever community city farm opens in St Anne's Park in Raheny

Dublin's first ever community city farm has opened in Raheny.

The Dublin City Farm has opened in St Anne's Park with plenty for the entire family to enjoy.

There will be pigs, chickens, goats, a guinea pig and even a pony names Moses.

As well as that, the farm has raised beds, a herb garden and a wooden cabin.

The Farm which will be open five days a week and has been built and run entirely by volunteers and is run on an entirely non-profit basis.

The project recently received a grant of €50,000 from the Google.org Impact Challenge to ensure the final infrastructure on site including wheelchair ramps, toilets and solar panels to make the farm accessible to everyone and self-sufficient.

Lord Mayor Nial Ring said: “The Dublin City Farm is an incredible resource for the whole Dublin community. The farm will create a wonderful opportunity for education and fun for children and families throughout Dublin.”

Marion Kelly from Dublin City Farm said: “The farm follows in the footsteps of other community farms in London like Hackney City farm and Spitalfields city farm.

"We believe that every child and grown up should have access to a garden and that everyone in the garden is equal.

"By providing a safe and open space for people to share what they know and learn from others, we strive to empower people through knowledge and creating. We are so excited to open our doors.”

The opening hours are:

  • Wednesday: Group bookings
  • Thursday: 9.30am - 3.00pm
  • Friday: 1.00pm - 4.00pm
  • Saturday: volunteering day 9.00am - 1.00pm
  • Sunday: 10.00am - 2.30pm
