Dublin's Andrew Scott nominated as best actor for this year's Olivier Awards, going up against James McAvoy, Wendell Pierce and Toby Jones

Andrew Scott has been nominated in this year's Olivier Awards, in the best actor category.

The famous Dubliner received widespread recognition for his role as a young Moriarty in the BBC series Sherlock, which earned him a BAFTA award for best supporting actor.

The Black Mirror star will be going up against industry titans for the award, such as James McAvoy, Wendell Pierce and Toby Jones.

He was nominated for his role as Garry Essendine in the comic play 'Present Laughter', which he performed at Noel Coward Theatre.

The awards will take at the Royal Albert Hall in London on April 5th.

Other awards up for grabs at the event include best director, best new musical, best actress and best new play.
