Alessandro Capozzi has been announced as the world pizza champion at an international competition in Italy.
The Dublin based chef, who works for the Irish hospitality group Press Up, was crowned winner at the international pizza championship Campionato Nazionale DOC.
The awards are recognised by UNESCO in support of Neopolitan style pizza.
Alessandro is the man behind the pizza at some of the city's favourite restaurants such as Layla's, Sophie's Rooftop, Roberta's, Angelina's, Mackenzie's and Dollard & Co.
Originally from Avellino in the heart of the Campania province of Southern Italy, Alessandro joined the Press Up group this year, with his pizza following a Neapolitan style. His role consists of quality control, sourcing, menu creation and training across a number of Press Up's venues.
The chef started his cooking journey at the age of 10 in his brother's restaurant and has now worked in Spain, England and Ireland.
He went up against entrants from all over the world, with 350 in total competing in 16 different categories. Over 1,000 pizzas were made as part of this year's awards.
He was previously awarded second place in 2019.
Alessandro won the title this year with his One Margherita, topped with San Marzano tomato sauce, Agerola fior di latte, fresh basil and EVO oil.
Campionato Nazionale DOC takes place every year in Italy and the 2021 awards was its seventh edition.
Second place went to Austria's Carmine de Michele while third place went to Brazil's Daniele Branca.
