Dublin residents warned after Covid jab scam sees fraudsters preying on the elderly

A warning has been issued as an elderly woman was almost duped after receiving a scam call from a fraudster pretending to ring on behalf of a hospital about the COVID-19 vaccine.

The woman was told she had an appointment for the jab at the hospital.

When she said she couldn't make it they offered to come to her home and give it to her.

The woman was then asked her age and if she lived alone.

Luckily, she didn't give them her address but instead rang her daughter who then asked her local doctor and was told that it was a scam call.

The daughter took to social media to warn others.

The warning, which was shared on the Finglas community Facebook group, said: "Not sure if anyone else has fallen foul of this latest scam call. My mum has had a phone call. They had her name.

"She was then told that she had an appointment for her COVID-19 jab at a hospital but not our local one. When she said that she could not get there they offered to come to her house and give it to her and asked if she lived alone and her age.

"Luckily she did not give out her address but rang me. I rang the doctor's surgery and was told it was a bogus call and that it is one of a few that are going around.

"Please beware and warn all our vulnerable family, neighbours and friends."
