Dublin residents wake up in horror as car flips onto its roof in early morning collision

The residents of a Dublin area woke up to a pandemonium after a car was flipped onto its roof during an early morning collision.

Locals were left startled after a loud screech rang through Emmet Road this morning.

The horror crash saw the car being thrown onto its roof with a man and a woman inside.

The two occupants managed to climb out of the window before fleeing the scene of the collision.

Witness Alisha Moore told Dublin Live: "I was half asleep and half awake and I didn’t know if I was dreaming.

"I heard this massive loud bang and my partner said, ‘Oh god, Alisha, look!’ And I looked out the window and there was a car flipped onto its roof.

"I was ringing the ambulance when I saw a man and a woman getting out of the windows.

"I don’t know how they survived because they were on the wrong side of the road.

"Both of them got out of the car and ran but blood was all over the side of the car."

Alisha said that while she rang the emergency services she saw the woman come back to the car twice before taking a bag from the wreck.

The couple was eventually found by the officers and they were taken to St James's Hospital.

She added: "There’s a girl up the road whose car was damaged completely and another car. She’s a healthcare worker and she’s worried about getting to work.

"The other guy whose car was also hit could be waiting for ages before getting it fixed."

A garda spokeswoman said: "I refer to your query and am to advise Gardaí in Kilmainham attended the scene of a RTC on Emmet Road, this morning Saturday 3rd July, 2021 at approximately 7.30a.m.

"One car was on its roof and the occupants of the car (a man and woman in their 30s) were removed to St. James Hospital.

"Investigations ongoing."
