Dublin residents urged to be wary of 'string trick' as thugs break into office building

Dublin locals are being urged to keep an eye out for a trick used by thieves to mark houses and cars that are being listed as targets for future break-ins.

The warning comes after residents in Clondalkin discovered that several cars in the area had had their front wipers tied with a length of white string with reports of people acting suspiciously in the area.

One man posted a picture of a person who had apparently tied a piece of string onto his girlfriend's car before adding that their CCTV footage showed him falling off his bicycle seconds after the act.

Several cars had been reportedly 'marked' last night in the Bawnogue and Bluebell Avenue areas while thugs even managed to gain entry to one office building in the area.

A number of men reportedly gained access to the premises on Thursday night but thankfully, nothing was reported stolen with gardai still investigating the matter.
